Art Journaling... oh so pink!

WOW!  I have been so blessed by all your wonderful comments regarding
the Simple Scrapbooking Giveaway... thank you!  You still have a couple
of days to enter if you still need to... so please do.

I've missed visiting with you this week but I'm knee deep in a licensing
project so I've had to give it my utmost attention. I'm still not finished
with it but just had to take a break to pop in and say HELLO to you!!


I thought you might like to see my newest journal pages... still in progress!
None of the three are finished but I'm loving them. I went up to the
mountain with Michelle and her family last weekend and in between
Jessica's races, Michelle and I would go back to their cabin for some
"ARTING" time together and the creativity and fun flowed!

I'm not sure where the PINK inspiration came from... pink is usually not me
at all... but I'm liking it for the moment! Jess did a ski jump that was
almost 59 feet!!!  WOW!!  Can you imagine flying through the air for 59 ft?
Yikes! Afterward she did say "that was scary!" We were so proud of her!

I've been playing with art ideas for my next book... working title is
"With All My Heart" and I'm thinking this sweet girl with a heart
shaped face just might just be in it... what do you think?

And isn't that what we all want? For those around us to see the LOVE
of God in our faces, in our attitudes... in how we live our lives? I know I
do. But it's not always easy is it? We can't truly love life and love others
unless we're spending time with the One who loves us above all others.

In fact... think about this...  you are God's Valentine!
He may not buy you a greeting card but He did write you a beautiful
love letter and bound it into a book for you to cherish forever.
He's probably not going to call the florist and order up flowers
but He has given you a fragrant bouquet of His love, joy, peace and hope
if you'll just reach out and receive it.
And He may not be taking you out to dinner or on a cruise... but He is
taking you on you an incredible journey... all the way to heaven
and the price of the ticket was extravagantly expensive...
it cost Him His Son... His life... the greatest Valentine gift of all...
and He says you're worth it!

Doubling the Fun with Two Winners...

First of all... THANK YOU to everyone who shared!
Sometimes we just need a prompt to get our creative juices flowing, don't we? 
I know I do. And I did... when I asked you what you would do with
the House Tags I was prompted to play myself and this is what I came up with...
mini plaques...

and they are so cute with little beaded wire hangers!

I used the Random Generator to choose two winners from all your comments
on Facebook and on the two blog posts and each winner will receive two of 
my handmade Mini Plaques... one "As for me and my house"...


and one "Love"...

Awesome. first thing that comes to me is to use them in a wedding gift, then scrapbook, with my preschool Mission Friends group and of course Mothers Day. They are so great there are endless opportunities and ways to use them. thank you for sharing the talent God has blessed you with.

What lovely tags. I would use these to give out to friends as a reminder that they are loved, not only by me, but by God as well, and that His blanket of love is draped over their homes. I may even make the Love and Peace homes tags bigger and frame them for wall art. I would choose a pretty ribbon to connect them vertically. 

I am thinking of using the pink border card to use as a generic card that I would hand write "hope you have a better than average full of God's blessing kind of a day" ~ a phrase I came up with years ago :o) Then I would give it to customers at work that seem like they could use a day brightener.

Free House Tags & Labels Download...

I love themes... and my theme for January is HOUSES!

The verse, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" came to my mind
just before the first of the year and dwelt there. It just kept popping into my
thoughts randomly so as I meditated on what it meant to me, I decided
to make it my theme for this month. I will share more on my musings later...

I met you in Washington last October and so enjoyed your talk on "What Happened to the Turkey?"  Since then I've checked in at Karla's Korner from time to time, and always enjoy your comments, your photos, and sharing from your part of the country.  Lately I've been checking in quite frequently, for a refreshing touch.  Thanks so much for sharing your life.  I loved the before and after acccount of your studio, and getting to tour your beautiful garden, with the lavender, daisies and photos of the Queen Anne's Lace.  Today it was a "trip" to the seashore.  Thanks for putting scenes so beautifully into words and pointing out God's many blessings. It makes me feel as though I've been there with you.

Creative Day #9... Paper Flowers

I first want to say THANK YOU for the wonderful response I've gotten from all of you who have commented to win the Goody GiveAway Gift Basket!  Your kindness always makes my heart smile!

I was inspired to create these cute paper flowers after seeing this post...
on Pam Garrison's blog... who saw this post... thanks Janice!
I love how we inspire and encourage one another!


For my version these are the supplies I started with...

an old book... with damaged or discolored pages

a piece of slightly heavier weight green paper for the back side of the flower

a scalloped edged circle paper cutter... mine is Fiskars
(you can also cut your flowers freehand with scissors... they're very cute freehand)

I used felt for the centers... you could use other contrasting paper or fabric

a tool to poke a hole... I used a metal skewer... you could use a big needle

glue stick... I love the kind that shows up purple

and stems... okay... I picked mine up at a yard sale
 but you can find a similar fabric wrapped wire at Joann's or on a roll at CreateForLess.


Simply cut out the flower shape with the punch or scissors.
If you cut it out freehand you will want to cut the back and front at the same time
and keep them together to make sure they will match.


Poke a hole in the center of the back with the needle or skewer.
Thread the wire through the hole and bend over sharply at the end.


Cover the back side of the flower with glue... including under the bent stem.


Pull the stem back out to the bend and press the flower top on firmly.

 
Cut a circle out of your felt and glue in the center.
Gently apply color around the outside of the flower and then darken the edge.


I used this ColorBox fluid chalk for my pink color.

 
On this freehand flower I used a color pencil. but you could also use
distressing ink, chalks, or even your kids color crayons.
In fact, this is an easy enough project to make with your kids!


Make a bunch for a bouquet or a few to decorate your next gift package.
And be creative... try different kinds of papers... different shaped punches...
or simple circles...
and wouldn't buttons for the centers be oh so sweet!
I want to make more just thinking about it!

Heading North...

I need to be out the door in about fifteen minutes to head north to Woodinville, WA which is just north of Seattle. It will be about a three to four hour drive depending on traffic and then I have the pleasure of sharing a Thanksgiving message with some ladies at Woodinville Community Church tonight for a Girlfriends Unlimited Night Out. I know they will be encouraged in the Lord so I'm eager to make the drive.

But... I was determined to say "HI" before I left and tell you all I miss you and have so much I want to share and so little time right now to do it. I promise I'll take time on Wednesday to do a little catching up.

But for now I wanted you to know, if you are local, that my daughter Michelle is having her annual Christmas Studio Sale this weekend and she has some great stuff and a great time planned. If you're not local you still might want to enter her Goody Giveaway!  Her stuff is so fun and with Christmas right around the corner you might want to check it out.
